Reports and dashboards

Save the questions you ask every week as reports, and put the ones each person needs on a dashboard.

Reports answer a question about your data — premium by insurer, renewals due this month, tasks per owner. Dashboards put the reports each person needs on one screen. Find both in the sidebar, under Reports and Dashboards.

Build a report#

  1. Open Reports and start a new report.
  2. Pick a source — the object you're reporting on.
  3. Choose columns, then group, total and filter.
  4. Choose how to show it: a table, a chart or both.
  5. Save it with a name and a description, so the team can find it and reuse it.

Totals go from counts and sums to averages, percentiles and standard deviation. The demo workspace keeps reports like Upcoming Renewals (Next 30 Days), Premium by Insurer and Agent Leaderboard.

When the visual builder can't express a question, an analyst can write the report as a SAQL statement instead. See Querying.

Build a dashboard#

Open Dashboards and choose New dashboard. Give it a name and a description — the dashboards list shows both — then add tiles from your saved reports:

  • KPI tiles for a single number: total commission, active policies, claims paid;
  • charts — more than 40 types, from bars and lines to funnels, gauges and waterfalls;
  • tables, such as a leaderboard of agents by policies and premium.

Use Edit to change a dashboard as the business changes, and the expand icon on any tile to see it full size. Pin the dashboards you use most so they sit in the sidebar.

A dashboard for every desk#

The demo workspace has 21 dashboards. Two of them, tile by tile:

DashboardWhat's on it
Executive OverviewPremium, customers, active policies and claims paid as KPI tiles; premium by month, by category and by insurer; new business against renewals; an agent leaderboard
Commission & RevenueTotal commission and passbacks; commission by insurer, by category and by month; top revenue products; commission statements by insurer; payouts by agent

Others are cut for a role or a line of business — Team Performance, My Performance, Renewals & Retention, Claims and Service Operations among them.

Who sees what#

Reports and dashboards respect permissions: each person's numbers only count the records they're allowed to see. Two people can open the same dashboard and see different totals. See Roles and permissions.

Ask instead#

For a one-off question, skip the report and ask. Type a plain-English question into the search bar, or ask Molly and get a chart back. See Querying.

Through the API#

Reports live under /docs/api/reports and dashboards under /docs/api/dashboards:

  • list, create, update and delete reports, and run a saved report with GET /reports/{id};
  • list, create, update and delete dashboards, and pin or unpin one with POST /dashboards/{id}/pin.

A new report takes a name, and optionally a description, a source, a view (table, chart or both) and a SAQL statement. Listing and running reports needs reports:run; creating, changing and deleting them needs reports:create. Dashboards need dashboards:view to read and pin, dashboards:create to create, and dashboards:manage to change or delete.
